Curly Hair (What It Is, Who It’s For, and Why We Made It)
We started as a braiding hair brand with the goal of bringing really high quality extensions into the festival space. Since then Half Sweet has grown into a lot more. Tie-ins, accessories, tools, education… and now curly hair.
Curly hair clients have always been able to wear straight braiding hair. The real ask I kept hearing was about versatility. People wanted to wear half up half down styles, leave pieces out, and have their natural texture actually match what we were adding in.
Instead of trying to smooth everything into straight extensions, we wanted something that worked with your hair.
So we started experimenting.
We took some of our most loved shades and gave them curl, just to see what would happen. And once we introduced it, we immediately knew it needed to stay.
What Makes Curly Hair Different
Curly braiding hair is not just straight hair that got waved. It behaves like curly hair does.
It has movement
It has texture
It has volume
Which means it blends naturally with textured hair, but it also opens up a completely different category of styles.
What You Can Use It For
Curly hair is honestly one of the most versatile things we carry.
✶ Curly girl friendly braids
✶ Goddess braids
✶ Boho braids
✶ Face framing pieces
✶ Accent braids
✶ Longer wear styles
✶ Festival styles
It also works really well if you want a different texture in your styles. Instead of everything looking super uniform, the curls break it up and add interest without you having to do much.
Important Things to Know
Curly hair works differently than our straight braiding hair. It is not blendable like straight extensions meaning you can't brush it out into your natural hair or mix it into other colors.
Instead:
✶ tuck your hair into it
✶ braid it into the structure
✶ let the texture do the work
If it gets frizzy, that’s normal. Curly hair does that.
To reset it:
✶ lightly mist with water
✶ add a little leave in conditioner
✶ reshape the curl with your hands
Who This Is For
This was created first and foremost for textured hair clients.
But it’s also for:
✶ people who struggle blending straight extensions
✶ styles where you don’t want everything to look perfectly uniform
✶ anyone who loves a little more volume
You absolutely do not need curly hair to wear it. You just need to be willing to let the texture be part of the look instead of trying to smooth it away :)
Why We Made It
The goal was never just to add another product.
I wanted something that removed a barrier. Something that let more people wear festival styles comfortably, and let experienced braiders create styles that didn’t all look the same.
This is one of those products that actually changes what styles are possible, and once you braid with it you understand immediately.
