Week 4: Recipe of The Week
Week 4’s Recipe of the Week is definitely giving DARE I SAY....mermaid energy - but in a subtle, cool, not-too-on-the-nose way....
This blend actually started as a happy accident. A few months ago, I made it on the fly using some “afters” pieces for a client. (If you’re new here: afters are the ends of blends that don’t get used, which I save and later mix into new recipes.) Then recently, another client requested that same blend again.. so I did my best to recreate it, and honestly… it deserved its own moment.
🌀 This Week’s Recipe
✶ Gen Z (Tinsel or Non Tinsel)
✶ Space Cadet (Tinsel or Non Tinsel)
✶ No Collabs (Tinsel or Non Tinsel)
✶ Moth to a Flame (Tinsel or Non Tinsel)
✶ Mystic
✶ Grape Vape (Tinsel or Non Tinsel)
✶ Trashcore (Tinsel or Non Tinsel)
✶ Silver Fox
This combo has a really pretty mix of cool tones, depth, and shimmer without feeling too cool toned or overly blended.
Why This Blend Works
This recipe shines (literally) because of the mix of iridescent tinsel and silver tinsel paired with deeper jewel tones. It feels ocean-coded without screaming mermaid.. which is exactly the balance we love at Half Sweet.
Ways to Customize This Blend
This recipe is super fun to tweak depending on your vibe:
✶ Add gold tinsel for warmth and contrast
✶ Add black tinsel to lean darker and moodier
✶ Drop in an ombré to give it even more depth & dimension
✶ Add Supervillain black if you want to take it fully to the dark side (example of adding black to a blend here)
You can keep it light and ethereal or push it to be a bit dramatic.. both work really well with this base.
Hot Tips for Mixing This Blend
Because there’s a lot happening color-wise, a little intention goes a long way:
✶ Don’t overmix - let the colors live next to each other
✶ Keep visible separation for dimension
This is one of those blends where less blending = more impact.
The Takeaway
This Recipe of the Week is proof that some of the best blends come from experimenting - and sometimes from leftover pieces that accidentally become something really coolllllll.
